Garmin Descent G1 Solar Ocean Edition
Garmin has gained a strong foothold in the diving world relatively quickly. Initially with their Descent MK1, and later with the development of the Descent MK2 series. Descent watches are known as the perfect combination of a versatile sports watch for all possible sports, a sleek everyday watch with smartwatch functions that interact perfectly with your smartphone, and, most importantly, a brilliant intuitive dive computer for recreational diving, technical diving, free diving, and spearfishing. In other words, the watch is designed to be on your wrist 24/7 – It even tracks your sleep – and whatever activity you engage in, the watch always has a useful feature that supports just that.
The time has come for the Descent series to be expanded with yet another brilliance - Garmin Descent G1 Solar.
Diving2000 is an official Garmin Test Center - Contact us if interested.
The new Descent G1 Solar is built for life by the water. The robust dive watch supports, just like the other products in the Descent series, many types of water sports from recreational diving to advanced technical diving, to spearfishing, free diving, swimming, Stand Up Paddle Board, and much more. Additionally, the Descent G1 is equipped with GPS, which, in connection with diving, marks your entries and exits. Finally, the watch pairs with smartphones, allowing you to use Garmin's Dive app where you can upload, share, and review your dives.
When you're not in or under the water, the Descent G1 Solar on your wrist functions as a versatile multisport smartwatch with a myriad of built-in sports features from running and mountain biking to golf and yoga. You can also receive smart notifications directly on your wrist, make contactless payments for lunch with Garmin Pay, personalize your watch face with Connect IQ, and much, much more.
If you're already familiar with Garmin's MK series, you'll immediately recognize the user interface and structure because Descent G1 Solar is built and designed precisely like the other models in the Descent series.
A cost-effective alternative...
In many ways, the Descent G1 Solar resembles Garmin's watches in the MK2 series. It differs in a few areas though.
The watch case in the Descent G1 series is made of Fiber-Reinforced Polymer, which is a cost-effective and extremely robust material. Thus, the watch accompanies you down to a depth of 100 meters. Furthermore, the G1 watches come with a black/white, two-window screen design with a 23mm diameter - A screen design that has proven to be a great success in Garmin's Instinct watches.
Compared to Garmin's other dive watches, the watch case size is reduced to 45.5mm in diameter, and the entire watch now weighs just 61 grams.
The watch's size and Garmin's choice of materials mean that the watch is offered at an extremely favorable price.
Let the sun do the work - Think sustainably
Descent G1 Solar has a built-in solar panel in the screen that contributes to charging the watch's battery and minimizes the number of hours the watch needs to charge in a socket. The solar panel allows you to explore longer with up to 25 hours of battery life in Dive mode, 124 days in Smartwatch mode, and 39 hours in GPS mode.*
The watch's rechargeable lithium-ion battery is also easily charged with the included charging cable. If you don't want the Solar model, the sister model, Descent G1, is available without a solar panel.
With QuickFit™ 22 watch bands, you can adapt your wrist style to any daily activity or special occasion – without using tools. And for diving, longer QuickFit straps are included for use over thick wetsuits or drysuits. You can personalize the watch face with free watch faces, apps, and data fields from Garmin's Connect IQ™ Store. For your safety, Connect IQ features are not available during dives to ensure that all dive functions work as intended. Both Descent G1 models are also Wi-Fi® enabled, allowing them to connect to your wireless network and automatically upload activities for sharing on Garmin Connect and Garmin Dive.
Wrist-based heart rate monitoring
Descent G1 Solar uses wrist-based pulse technology for optical scanning of your pulse (when worn in contact with the skin, not over a wetsuit or drysuit). The dive computer records your fatigue levels and automatically uploads your pulse data to your Garmin Connect account and Dive App for review and analysis after the dive.
If you desire heart rate monitoring even when the watch is worn over a suit, the watch can be paired with Garmin's separate heart rate monitor (HRM-Pro), which can be worn under the suit. If worn directly on the skin, the watch can also read pulse data during your dive.
