Control digits provide increased security when using payment cards on the internet. When using your payment card on the internet, you need to provide the card's control digits along with the card number and expiration date. This additional control has been introduced to enhance security for online payments.
What are control digits?
Control digits are a three-digit number - typically the last three digits in a series of numbers - printed on the back of all Visa/Dankort and Danish Eurocard and MasterCard. So far, two-thirds of all "pure" Dankort, i.e., Dankort without Visa, are not equipped with control digits. Even if your card does not have control digits, you can still shop online. However, if you have control digits, you need to provide them when prompted. PBS International verifies that the information about the card number, expiration date, and control digits is from the same payment card.
