Commercial diving is a fascinating, exciting, and challenging profession, and with a Nitrox certification on board, you can expand your horizons and maximize both time and abilities underwater.
Nitrox, also known as Enriched Air Nitrox or EANx, refers to a gas mixture containing more oxygen than the conventional air we breathe on land. While regular air consists of about 21% oxygen, Nitrox can contain a higher percentage, usually 32%, 36%, or 40% oxygen.
The purpose of diving with Nitrox is to increase the time a diver can spend underwater while reducing the risk of certain diving-related illnesses. By reducing the proportion of nitrogen that the diver inhales, the risk of decompression sickness can be reduced, and bottom time underwater can be extended. Nitrox training for commercial divers is offered as an optional course for divers who already hold certification as a Limited SCUBA Commercial Diver to 9 meters depth or higher. After completing Nitrox training, the commercial diver is qualified to dive using Nitrox as a breathing gas.
